Fig. 11.14. The data presented in Fig. 11.13 can be configured to show the probability of herd stability as a function of range-wide disturbance. The caribou recovery team used this relationship to develop a functional definition of critical habitat. The team equated critical habitat with a requirement to achieve a minimum 0.6 probability of herd stability (i.e., 60%). This threshold corresponded to a maximum 35% disturbance of the range (i.e., 65% undisturbed). Adapted from EC 2012c.
